Protecting Your Cat From The Holidays
It is the holiday season. Friends and relatives are coming to visit and you are decorating for the season. Here are some tips for keeping your cats out of danger during all the excitement and change.
Some typical holiday foods can be a problem for your cat including: alcoholic beverages, chocolate, and coffee. And some traditional holiday plants are also hazardous to cats, such as: lilies, poinsettias, mistletoe and holly. Keep your cat away from these temptations.
Then there is the Christmas tree and it’s decorations. The lights, the ornaments, and the smell all may entice your cat to interact with the tree. Discourage this interest.
Specific dangers include: electrical cords, ribbons and tinsel if eaten, and glass ornaments that can be broken when playfully batted onto the floor.
For more information on holiday hazards and your cat, check out the Cat Fancier’s Association bulletin.
