My Cat Is A Control Freak!

In modern psychological slang, a control freak is someone who insists on having their way in all interactions with you. Control freaks want to set the agenda and decide who will do what and when they will do it. Control freaks make it very clear that if they do not get what they want, they will be unhappy. AND, you do not want them to be unhappy.

Well there you have it; my cat is a control freak. For example, if there are three ways into the house, only one of which requires me to open a door - guess which one he chooses? :-)

Or, if he has asked to be fed and I have put fresh food in his bowl on the counter, will he jump up to get it? No! He sits on the floor below the counter looking pitifully at me to pick him up.

He also wants someone to sit with him while he takes a kitty bath and prepares for a nap. If you think you may have a control freak too, check out the questionnaire below.

Check all items that describe your cat:

  • Believes people cannot be trusted to make the right decision
  • If he has to ride in the car, he wants to drive
  • Believes he needs to do everything himself to get it done right
  • Rarely, if ever, thinks he is in the wrong
  • Loves to be the center of attention and has very creative ways to get it
  • Doesn’t like people touching his stuff
  • Tends to interrupt you when you are working
  • Doesn’t like taking orders.

Psychologists tell us that there is no effective treatment for this condition ;-).
