If Only I Could Sleep as well as My Cat :-)

In fact, cats get more sleep than virtually any other animal, about twice as much as most mammals. :-) Sleeping is simply a normal behavior for cats. Just how much a particular cat will sleep depends upon many factors, including age, hunger, their sense of security, the temperature and the weather.

Studies have shown that cats can enter into a deep sleep like humans, and have similar brain wave patterns when they dream. So if you see your cat asleep, whiskers twitching, and the eyes under the closed lids rapidly moving to and fro, your cat is probably out on the hunt in her dreams.

The origin of the phrase Catnap is thought to be from "thieves’ cant", and referred to a practice of feigning sleep to allay suspicion, according to James Sherwood in his article, "Why Do We Say It? The History of Some of Today’s Most Common Phrases".

The term refers to feigned sleep used to lull of robbery target into a false sense of security. The practice got its name from the action of cats, which occasionally pretend sleep to lure out prey. If you want a quick smile, check out: Catnaps - The key to a healthy lifestyle posted on Vox.
