FLUTD, Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease
Pet Ecology Brands, Inc. has developed a revolutionary patented cat litter that has the ability to help indicate Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) describes a collection of conditions that can affect the bladder and/or urethra of cats. Pet Insurance Company published a paper in 2005 stating that lower urinary tract disease was the most common reason owners took cats to a veterinarian.
Urinary tract diseases affect all breeds and age groups of cats. If a cat has previously had FLUTD, they are more likely to have a recurrence. Neutered males are also at high risk due to the physiology of the male cat’s narrower urethra. Symptoms of FLUTD include frequent urination, changes in litter box habits, bloody or blood-tinged urine, frequently licking of the genitals, and general discomfort.
Scientific Professional Cat Litter measures the pH value of your cat’s urine to diagnose potential FLUTD. In general, the less acidic (higher pH) a cat’s urine, the more likely the cat is to have a urinary track infection. Scientific Professional Cat Litter is designed to be an early warning system for elevated pH.
The clumps that form in the litter box when a cat urinates turn to a shade of pink if the acid content is low. The litter color changes to varying shades from pale pink to magenta when the pH in a cat’s urine is above normal. The litter container has a color check guide and suggestions on when you should take your cat to have it checked by a veterinarian.
