Cat collars can be a fashion accessory coming in colors, styles, and decorations that accent your cat’s personality. Collars should fit well - it goes almost without saying. You should strive for a fit that allows 1-2 fingers underneath. If the collar is too loose, the cat may get its leg through it or slip it off. If it is too tight, you can experience chaffing on his skin or worse. If your cat is still growing, it is very important to check the collar fitting regularly. It is a good idea to get kittens used to wearing collars at an early age.  Items attached to the collar such as tags and bells may be hazardous if, for example, the cat gets a claw stuck in the bell opening. If you wanted a bell because you thought it may serve as an early warning system for birds, observational research has shown some merit to this belief.  But, anecdotal observations also report that some cats, creeping up on a bird, have learned to silence their bells.
